AP Service vs. Calibration

  • AP SERVICE
  • “As Received” Performance Report
  • Repair
  • Adjust
  • Certificate of Traceability
  • Optional ECO Updates
  • “As Shipped” Performance Report
  • ACCREDITED CALIBRATION
  • Same as AP Service plus

  • “As Shipped” Calibration Report

AP Service is the process of restoring optimum instrument performance by resetting internal electrical components and stored software constants to correct for the inevitable effects of aging and drift and performing any necessary repairs required to meet Audio Precision’s rigorous internal requirements. Service does not imply Calibration. Accredited Calibration is the process of comparing instrument performance to nationally administered standards or fundamental units of nature.

Each instrument that arrives at Audio Precision for Service or Calibration is first given an "As Received" performance test. The instrument is then adjusted and tested to meet Audio Precision’s rigorous internal requirements. After adjustment, the instrument is given an "As Returned" performance test, and must pass all items with no failures. The adjusted instrument is returned to the customer with a printed "As Received" performance test report, an "As Returned" performance test report and a Certificate of Traceability. Calibration results in a document containing a "Certificate of Calibration" and a performance report containing test data and other relevant information.

Service and Calibration typically take two weeks from arrival of the instrument at the factory; expedited service (1 week turnaround) is available for an additional cost.

Optional ECOs (Engineering Change Orders) install updates from the Engineering department. Installation is optional, but will take more time.

Warranty vs. Nonwarranty Service

Any instrument covered under a valid Audio Precision new product warranty where the damage is not caused by owner misuse or abuse is repaired free of charge. If the repair is made within a year of purchase, the unit will also receive anAccredited Calibration. If the unit is more than one year old, calibration is not included automatically, though it can be ordered at an extra charge.

It's important to note that scheduled annual adjustments are specifically excluded from the Audio Precision warranty.

Instruments that are no longer covered under a valid Audio Precision warranty can be repaired at the factory provided they have not been designated “obsolete”. For the support status of any AP model, visit Model Search. Typically, charges will not exceed the posted repair fees. The minimum service fee for all units is $250. In the event a module is non-repairable, Audio Precision will contact the customer before proceeding further. Please contact your local Sales Partner for current prices. Audio Precision warrants repair parts and labor for 90 days.

AP Warranty terms and conditions

Conditional Support Policy

Audio Precision products that have been discontinued for a period of at least five years are placed in a product life-cycle category called "Conditional Support". Conditional Support means that Audio Precision can no longer guarantee its ability to service or repair a product due to the unavailability of certain key components or assemblies, or depleted repair stock inventories.

Audio Precision will continue to provide hardware service for these older products on a case-by-case basis subject to the following procedure:

  • The customer must first contact our service department for an initial consultation, then download and run an approved Performance Check that will assist us in evaluating the condition of the instrument.
  • If AP can determine the most probable failure(s) from the results of the Performance Check AND determine that all necessary repair parts or assemblies are still available, the customer will be instructed to fill out a Service Request form and send the product to AP's US factory or to a specified service center. At that time, a non-refundable evaluation fee of $250 will be due, and AP will provide a non-binding estimate of total service charges. If AP cannot make a tentative diagnosis from the Performance Check results, or if it is totally non-functional, the unit can still be submitted for review subject to the non-refundable $250 evaluation fee.
  • Successfully repaired units will have the $250 evaluation fee credited toward the total service charges. These units will be returned according to the shipping instructions provided on the Service Request form. If AP discovers that a unit cannot be economically repaired, all service work will cease and the customer will be notified.

All repairs performed on Conditional Support products will be on a "best-effort" basis subject to the availability of key parts and assemblies. In certain situations we may propose the use of refurbished assemblies from a previously salvaged unit.
